Organic Soapwart Shampoo:
Soapwart root, available at health food stores, contains saponins which make it similar to soap...it lathers when agitated.
2 cups steamed distilled water
1 1/2 tbs dried soapwart root (chopped)
2 tsp organic lemon verbena or catnip
Bring water to a boil, add soapwart. Lower heat and simmer, covered, for about 20 min. Remove from heat, add herb and cool.
Strain the mixture into a bottle.
Makes enough for 6 or 7 organic shampoos. Can be kept 8-10 days. Store in fridge.
*Suitable for all hair types.
Lemon Verbena for a lemony fragrance and catnip for healthy hair growth!
Homemade organic hair care is fragrant and naturally healthy! Just like the expensive, poisonous variety claim to be.
Organic Honey Conditioner:
1/2 cup honey
2 tbs organic cold pressed olive oil
Mix honey and olive oil together. Work a small amount of conditioner at a time through hair until coated. Shampoo and rinse.
*Use 1/4 cup of olive oil if your hair is extremely damaged or dry.
Do a deep treatment by covering your hair with a shower cap or towel and leaving conditioner on 30 min.
Remove hair covering and shampoo well.
Organic Dandruff Control:
1/4 cup organic vinegar
Pour the vinegar onto your head. Massage it into your scalp and leave it on for 10 minutes. Shampoo and condition as usual. Once you have washed your hair, towel dry it.
Do not use a hair dryer! They can reduce the activity of the vinegar.
Organic Hair Spray:
2 cups steamed distilled water
1/2 organic orange
1/2 organic lemon
Chop fruit into small pieces and place in a pot with water. Bring to a boil. Continue to boil until reduced by half. Cool, strain, and pour into a spray bottle. Store in the fridge.
Add steamed distilled water to reduce stickiness, if needed.
